The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven emirates located on the Arabian Peninsula, bordered by Saudi Arabia and Oman. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are the most prominent emirates, known for skyscrapers, luxury shopping, and large-scale tourism development. The UAE dirham is the official currency, and Arabic is the official language, though English is widely spoken. The country has a desert climate, with very hot summers and mild winters. Tourism is a major industry, with attractions ranging from the Burj Khalifa and Sheikh Zayed Mosque to desert safaris and artificial islands. The country is culturally conservative but generally tolerant of visitors, with modest dress recommended in public areas. Alcohol is available in licensed venues, and public behaviour laws should be respected. The UAE has a modern transport infrastructure, including metro systems, international airports, and excellent roads. It is safe, organised, and ideal for city breaks, shopping, and sunshine-based holidays, with a growing interest in eco-tourism and cultural sites.
