There are some hotels that feel instantly recognisable, and The Find is one of them. Sitting at the far end of Kabalana Beach in Ahangama on Sri Lanka’s south coast, the boutique hotel has become known for its distinctive pink facade and interiors, something that now feels completely synonymous with the property itself. Yet after speaking to owner Myles, I discovered the hotel was never actually meant to turn out quite so pink. Inspired by the colour of traditional Sri Lankan pottery, the shade developed into something far bolder and more memorable than originally planned. The result is effortlessly iconic.

Every corner of the hotel feels considered. The interiors are chic without trying too hard, filled with beautifully curated furniture, textured linens and thoughtful details that make the entire property feel cohesive from the moment you arrive. The pool sits at the centre of the hotel, framed by greenery and sun loungers, before a handful of steps lead directly down onto the sand.

The atmosphere on this stretch of coastline is magnetic. At sunset, the air turns humid as hundreds of surfers line the shoreline, their silhouettes blurred by a hazy mist over the water. Sparkling grey tones stretch across the vast expanse of beach, creating a sense of scale that is truly breathtaking. There is a profound feeling of being at the edge of the world here; knowing that the next stretch of land beyond the Indian Ocean is Antarctica makes home feel worlds away. It is an environment that feels both raw and refined, instantly capturing the adventurous spirit of Sri Lanka’s surf culture.

The Rooms

The rooms at The Find are exquisite, all designed with sea and pool views alongside private balconies that make the most of the setting. The interiors feel polished yet relaxed, with beautiful furniture, soft neutral tones and carefully chosen details throughout.

One of the standout features is the bathrooms, something so many hotels overlook. Large windows overlook the ocean—an unexpectedly rare find—while the layouts offer plenty of luggage space without ever feeling cluttered. Every detail feels intentional, right down to the incredibly comfortable beds and the sound of the waves drifting through the rooms at night.

Hangout Spaces

The social spaces are a huge part of what makes The Find feel so special. Sunbeds surround the central pool, while the open dining area and bar naturally become gathering spots throughout the day. Even the check-in lobby feels beautifully designed, with the same considered aesthetic running throughout the property.

Despite owner Myles being British, the hotel never feels westernised. Sri Lanka still feels wonderfully raw in so many ways, with its culture remaining incredibly prominent, and that authenticity carries through into the hotel itself. The whole property feels deeply connected to its surroundings, created by someone who now genuinely calls Sri Lanka home.

Dining

Breakfast is included each morning, with eggs cooked to order, fresh fruit and nourishing bowls served alongside coffee and juices. Throughout the day, there is an all-day dining menu with light bites available for lunch and dinner, as well as an extensive cocktail and drinks list from the bar. As the sun begins to set, the restaurant and terrace become one of the best spots in Ahangama to spend the evening, whether staying at the hotel or simply stopping by for drinks overlooking the beach.

Nearby Highlights

Ahangama has quickly become one of the best towns along Sri Lanka’s south coast, with a growing mix of restaurants, cafés, bars, gyms and wellness spaces all within easy reach of the hotel. The location on Kabalana Beach makes it an excellent base for exploring the rest of the south coast, with nearby towns including Weligama, Mirissa and Galle all easily accessible for day trips.
