PALM Hotel opened in 2019 on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, by Londoners Miriam and Laurie. It sits on four acres of a former coconut plantation, surrounded by rice paddies and tropical greenery. The property is roughly ten minutes from Ahangama’s surf beaches and around two to two and a half hours from Colombo and Bandaranaike International Airport. The hotel’s layout spreads its accommodations across the site to give privacy while keeping a central hub for socialising, creating a modern take on coastal living in Sri Lanka.

The Rooms

The hotel has six A-Frame Cabanas, two Deluxe Suites on stilts, and the four-bedroom PALM Haus villa. A-Frame Cabanas are designed for two adults and two children, with floor-to-ceiling glass, concrete interiors, linen beds, bespoke cane furniture, private terraces, and open-air showers that open to the gardens. The Deluxe Suites sit on stilts among the treetops, offering private patios and elevated views. PALM Haus is a standalone villa with four bedrooms, open-plan living areas, a kitchen, and wrap-around porches, ideal for families or groups. All rooms have Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, in-room safes, mini-fridges, and daily housekeeping.

Hangout Spaces

The hotel’s central pavilion houses the restaurant, bar and lounge areas. Outside is a 14-metre pool surrounded by lawns and palms, with shaded terraces and poolside seating. There is a small gym branded PALM Fit and a concept store selling local products. The layout keeps spaces open but private, so guests can choose between socialising in the pavilion or relaxing quietly by the pool or in garden areas.
